Accessibility at AGH

Building an Inclusive Academic Community

Legal and Social Context

The growing number of people with special needs is one of the greatest challenges facing modern education. According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (ratified by Poland in 2012), universities should strive to create an environment that enables effective education for all students—regardless of their physical or mental condition.

AGH’s Approach to Accessibility

For many years, AGH has been at the forefront of academic institutions that consciously develop support for people with disabilities.

Accessibility Policy and Implementation

The Accessibility Department, in collaboration with staff from various units, has developed a series of changes to the University’s internal regulations that address specific needs—including those that have previously functioned within the community as the so-called "best practices.” The Accessibility Policy, introduced in September 2023, along with the Standards and regularly updated procedures, forms the foundation for efforts to build an inclusive academic community. As a result, students have gained even greater access to the services offered by AGH and staff have been provided with tools to facilitate compliance with legal accessibility obligations.
